The subject of the research is the category of transcendental consciousness in N.A. Berdyaev’s philosophy, which appears as an alternative to the classically oriented epistemological consciousness. Comparing the concept of mind, developed by the Russian philosopher, with the phenomenological approach to the issue in the Western European tradition, the author examines the reasons for which Berdyaev considers it necessary to construct such a consciousness in a subject, and comes to the conclusion that the values of transcendental consciousness are freedom, self-consciousness and the subject-subjective communication.
