The article deals with the urgency of learning the regional settlement systems as the object of the study of the regional system of settlement. There is underlined the significance of studying the reginal settlement system of the Lugansk region. The author conducts the analysis of the dynamic and structure changes of the network of settlements of the Lugansk region in 1989-2018. There are defined the basic characteristics of the transformation in the structure of the settlement system in the Lugansk region.
