Heroism as a social phenomenon is one of the most interesting subjects of research not only in general psychology, but also in a wider range of disciplines. This article examines the growing relevance of identifying the causes of heroic behavior as commonplace, manifested in everyday life, and in extraordinary situations. It is also the beginning of the study of heroism as a phenomenon through the study of changes in the semantics of the concept, starting from Homer's representations of the hero as "over I", to the more modern views of Carlyle and Freud, followed by the study of the emergence of the concept of small h-heroism and the actualization of its application in existing reality.
