Transformation of the corporality of university students

Based on the materials of an empirical study conducted in May 2020 among students of the Ural Federal University, Ural mining University (Yekaterinburg), changes in the mental and physical health of students that occurred under lockdown caused by the pandemic are analyzed. 920 people aged 18-24 who are studying for bachelor's and master's degrees were interviewed, 10 in-depth interviews were conducted. The main transformations of the respondents' corporality that occurred as a result of a radical change in their lifestyle and the transition to online education are revealed. The majority of respondents noted an increase of irritation, fear, depression, and physical weakness. The methods of constructing a healthy body used by students of different sexes during lockdown are revealed. Young people began to spend twice as much time on exercise, engage in sports available under quarantine, and try to regulate their mental reactions by suppressing negative emotions.
