The Article is devoted to determining the place of retail services in the system of generally accepted classification of needs. A comparative assessment of needs classifications is made, approaches to defining the concept of retail trade services are considered, its state is characterized, and retail trade development trends are identified as a response to changing needs in the digital economy.
