The purpose of the article - is to determine the features of the transformation of guilt in the novels of F. M. Dostoevsky "Crime and punishment "And F. Kafka"the Process". The main attention is paid to the identification of the representation of punishment in the works of Russian and German-speaking writers. As a result, it is determined That F. M. Dostoevsky leads his hero to a sincere confession, and then rewards him with compassion from other people. For Kafka, guilt and punishment become an instrument of the system's struggle with the "objectionable", those who are dissatisfied with reality. By placing his character in the absurd situation of being accused of something he didn't do, the twentieth-century writer shows his disgust at the imperfection of the existing way of life.
