January of 1990 was an intricate period for the USSR community. In spite of the 'glasnost' policy initiated by the communist party leaders and processes of step-by-step relief from communist dogmas, mass media were still operating under the communist party control. The author wonders how national printed publications reflected the current events under those conditions and whether they could measure social changes objectively.
