Transhumanist currents: unity in diversity

Transhumanism is multifaceted and contradictory. There are many currents in it, united by the idea of human improvement with the help of high technology and the achievements of scientific progress. Each of them offers its own, original and sometimes very controversial concept of the transhumanist future, but they share common belief that humanity will choose the right development path. The article focuses on a comprehensive analysis of various transhumanist conceptions and on the identification of their characteristics. Generalization of various theoretical material allows to reveal the multidimensional nature of the phenomenon of transhumanism, to highlight the specific features of its currents, and to demonstrate their advantages and disadvantages. Applying an interdisciplinary approach, the author makes an attempt to determine the prospects of posthuman future and to substantiate the necessity of paying attention to the impending socio-cybernetic evolution.
