Transcultural features in the novel Petropolis by A. Ulinich

Statement of the problem. In the modern period, which is characterized by linguistic interaction and penetration of cultures, the problem of studying the phenomenon of transculturality becomes quite relevant. Cultural interaction is manifested especially vividly in the works by emigrant writers, who, finding themselves in a new linguistic environment, form their own linguistic space that reflects their worldview, while combining elements of two language systems and cultures. The purpose of the article is to analyze and highlight the features of transculturalism in the work by the modern emigrant writer A. Ulinich. The research methodology (materials and methods). The text of the novel Petropolis by A. Ulinich served as the material for the study. The work uses the methods of analysis and generalization, linguoculturological analysis of the text, analysis of the semantic structure of lexemes and synchronous study of linguistic units of different languages. Review of scientific literature on the problem. Along with a rather impressive number of works devoted to the language of translingual writers, works on the analysis of the phenomenon of transculturality in the work by modern authors who create their texts in English are quite few and do not fully address the problem of the functional significance of this phenomenon. Research results. Based on the analysis of the text by A. Ulinich, the phenomenon of transculturality in the English text was studied. The analysis of the text by A. Ulinich showed that the author productively uses national vocabulary in her work, emphasizing the cultural layer of the language, which is native to the author. The main feature of the novel Petropolis can be considered keeping cultural identity of the native language, presented in the text as a linguocultural substrate in the context of another language. Conclusion. Transculturality in the text by A. Ulinich’s novel is manifested in a peculiar world vision, enriched with elements of two different cultures. The author shows belonging to two cultural traditions, includes her experience in a literary work, forms the image of Russia in a foreign language communicative space.
