In the article, the author considers the modern Mongolian-Japanese relations. In 2017, Mongolia and Japan are celebrating the 45th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. Like all East Asian states, Mongolia and Japan have a rich history of relationships. In the post-Soviet space, Japan as a developed state was an influential economic center, to which during a difficult transformation period Mongolia stretched. Japan became the leader in organizing international assistance for young democracy throughout the period of its formation and development. In the small historical period, Mongolia and Japan were able to increase their bilateral relations to the strategic partnership, which, within the framework of Mongolia's foreign policy concept, could be regarded as the definition of Japan as a third neighbor: a real pillar in the whole spectrum of bilateral relations. The article analyzes the development of Mongolian-Japanese relations, reveals the nature of trade and economic relations based on a bloc of official sources.
