Turbo roundabout as an alternative to the ordinary roundabout

This paper compares the traffic capacity of one- and two-lane roundabouts, and the traffic capacity of two-lane roundabouts and turbo roundabouts using the PTV VISSIM software product. The study showed that the traffic capacity of two-lane roundabout is 40-50% higher than one-lane roundabout. It has also been established that due to the prohibition of lane change and, as a consequence, conflict point reduction, the traffic capacity of the turbo roundabouts increases by 20-30% compared to the two-lane circular roundabouts. In addition, reducing the number of conflict points provides greater road safety.With the ever-increasing level of automobilization, it is necessary to increase the traffic capacity and safety of roundabouts. An effective solution to this problem is the use of turbo roundabouts.
