At the sources of the historical approach (based on articles on liturgical themes in Khristianskoye chteniye, 1821-1855)

The article focuses on the significance of the journal Khristianskoye Chteniye in the publication of articles on liturgical themes in the period from 1821 to 1955. On the basis of an analysis of identified articles the following three periods have been singled out: the first (1821-1829), the second (1830-1838) and the third (1840-1855), with the main themes of articles defined in each. Te fragmentation into periods, though conditional, however, reveals important tendencies in the application of the historical approach to liturgics. In the first period, there appear articles with ‘elements of historicism’. In the second period, the first attempts are made to use the historical approach in articles by prot. Gerasim Pavsky and Archimandrite Martitiry Gorbachevsky. Te third period is the most prolific in the number of published articles. Te use of the historical approach in articles becomes more common. Te most important are articles by V. I. Dolotsky and his disciples, published in the period from 1844 to 1855, through whose efforts the approach takes root in liturgics. It makes it possible to speak of Dolotsky as the founder of the academic development of historical liturgics. Te article makes use of the historical-textual method
