The author examines various aspects of the participation of students and teachers of educational institutions in the formation of the cultural environment of a provincial Russian city of the early 20th century on the example of Pavlovsky Posad, Bogorodsky district of Moscow province based on an integrated approach and archival materials. It is noted that the growth of industry, the new buildings of the factories of Staro-Pavlovskaya, Abramovs’, Sokolikovs’, Kudins’, the Russian-French Anonymous Society, a bank, a printing house, a hospital, a city garden, lighting, and water supply have become everyday life. The newly built buildings of the women’s gymnasium and the men’s nonclassical secondary school became cultural centers. It is shown that students under the guidance of teachers actively participated in the cultural life of the city. The organization of excursions around the suburbs, to Moscow and other cities has become widespread. At the beginning of the 20th century in the gymnasium and secondary school literary and musical evenings, festive balls, theatrical performances were staged, a literary circle and a lecture hall worked along with educational classes. Thanks to active and fruitful educational and charitable activities, Pavlovo-Posad educational institutions were included in the cultural space of the city. Their experience can be used today.
