The article deals with the current state of foreign trade relations between Russia and the EU countries. The article is aimed at studying trends in the development of trade relations between Russia, EU countries, China and the USA in global value chains. Trends in global value chains were analyzed. Given Russia's position in the global value chains upstream, failures of Russian exports may well spread to the supply chains and also have an impact through indirect trade. However, this type of commodity-based participation in global value chains requires very limited control over production and prices at subsequent stages, as well as over the total value of the entire production process.
