The paper presents the results of a survey of 513 young people aged 14 to 30 years (members of NGOs, youth self-government bodies, employees of youth affairs bodies and other categories) from 14 Russian regions, conducted in October-November 2020. The author developed two opposite cases and considered the relationship between the protest activity of young people and the degree of effectiveness, coverage of the activities of nonprofit organizations and youth self-government bodies. As a result of the analysis, it was found that young people living in regions with a low degree of efficiency of public institutions (according to the survey participants) are more likely to protest than young people from regions with more developed opportunities for civic participation. Thus, support of the activities of non-profit organizations and youth self-government bodies can create conditions for reducing the level of protest moods of young people in the regions of Russia. Nowadays, according to the analysis of the data obtained as a result of the study, the request of young people to participate in the activities of civil institutions has been formed, but opportunities for its implementation are not presented in all regions involved in the survey.
