The article discusses volunteering as a social activity, identifies the main directions of scientific research of volunteering, reflects the essence of volunteering as a form of mutual aid and charity, highlights the basic principles of volunteering, reveals the features of the formation of motivation for volunteering among young people, including youth in voluntary activities. The author provides a brief description of the principles of technology of social and pedagogical support of voluntary activities. Considerable attention is paid to the study of the attitude of future social work professionals to volunteering. The article presents the results of a survey of students of the "social work" (bachelor) direction on this issue. Future social work specialists, in general, have a positive attitude to voluntary activities and, if possible, take part in it, they consider such activities useful both for personal and professional development in the social sphere. It also identifies the features of professional training of future social workers, taking into account the inclusion of students not only in the theoretical study of the experience of volunteering, but also practical participation in various activities related to providing assistance to people in difficult life situations on a voluntary basis.
