This article deals with the philosophical views of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, a German Enlightenment philosopher, one of the greatest representatives of classical German philosophy. Addressing Fichte’s philosophical thoughts seems to be certainly relevant, because many questions raised by him remain quite topical even in today’s world, including such issues as the essence of human freedom, the purpose of the state as a social institution. The study reveals the meanings of such concepts as “state”, “social interventionism”, “freedom”, “labor” and “national destiny” presented in the interpretation of Fichte. In addition, the author has analyzed the main provisions of such well-known works of Fichte as “Addresses to the German Nation” and “The Closed Commercial State” in terms of their relevance for the Theory of State and Law.
