The teaching of Gabrielle Tarde on criminal personality

Introduction: the article is devoted to the analysis of Gabrielle Tarde's (a well-known French sociologist and criminologist, who is rightly considered the founder of the subjective psychological direction in Western sociology) views on criminal personality. Materials and Methods: in conducting the study, the dialectical materialistic method was taken as a basis, as well as the general scientific and private scientific methods based on it (system-structural, logical, analysis of documents and other sources). The study was based on the work “The Criminal and the Crime” by Gabriel le Tarde, modern studies on an identity of a criminal, as well as statistical data on recidivism in Russia for 2014-2017 compiled by All-union Research Institution of MIA of Russia. Results: the research made it possible to formulate a number of conclusions, both methodological (based on the author using the arguments of teachings of Cesare Lombroso, Joseph Delbef’s experiments, etc.) and criminological (the paramount nature of the psychological component of criminalization of personality leading to adequate response to the antisocial behaviour of the state) character...
