The review article discusses the pharmacological properties of new generation antiepileptic drugs: eslicarbazepine, lacosamide, retigabine, perampanel, everolimus, brivaracetam and zonisamide. Information is provided on pharmacokinetics, mechanisms of action, drug interaction, indications for use and side effects. These drugs are recognized as more effective and safer than the anticonvulsant drugs of the first and second generations that were previously used. Most recently discovered antiepileptic drugs are used to treat focal seizures, as well as specific epileptic syndromes (Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Drewe syndrome), as well as tuberous sclerosis. The mechanism of action, pharmacokinetic properties, clinical efficacy and side effects of drugs require an individual approach in the treatment of patients. A well-chosen treatment regimen allows you to control epileptic seizures, as well as prevent the development of complications. When prescribing antiepileptic drugs, their pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics must be taken into account.
