Based on the revealed materials, the main components of the demographic situation in the Tavrensky Prikaz of the Vologda Appanage Office between the VIII and IX revisions are analyzed. The initial data for the analysis is information on the number of male souls, which were fairly objectively recorded during the revisions. It is proved that the increase in men in the Prikaz occurred only due to the birth rate. Its rather high level was largely leveled out by mortality, recruitment, and, to some extent, the transition of peasants to merchants, monasticism, disappearances, and exile to Siberia. As a result, the increase in the male population in the Tavrensky Prikaz over 16 years did not exceed 20% and averaged about 1.2% per year. Approximately two thirds of the men recorded in the revisions were under the age of 30. Over time, the proportion of older peasants, the population of households and appanage villages increased. At the same time, the average number of households per village remained almost unchanged.
