The First World War gave rise to many social problems, forever changing the usual landscape of the socio-political development of the world. One of the negative consequences of the war was mass refugees. The purpose of this article is to explore how refugees living in shelters could have their religious needs met. The research methodological basis is based on such principles as historicism and objectivity. In the course of the research, the author concluded that the religious needs of the refugees were met by priests on a voluntary basis or with the funds of the Committee, but not with the help of priests of the Ministry of the Interior. It is worth noting that at the moment the article offered to the reader’s attention is the first study in which the indicated topic is revealed. The relevance of this topic lies in the fact that today in some regions of the world the problem of refugees is still acute, in connection with which it is necessary to refer to the historical experience in the field of solving social problems.
