Criminal exile in Siberia in XVII-XIX centuries: numbers, locations, economic use

The article is devoted to the establishing of the facts concerning the numbers and locations of criminal exile in Siberia during XVII-XIX centuries. Basing both on published and previously unknown materials, the author shows the role of the convicts in the settlement and development of the region, their participation in agricultural production, mining industry and building of infrastructure.
