The thyroid gland is an organ of internal secretion that produces hormones that are responsible for the metabolism in the human body. It is located on the front of the neck and looks like an open butterfly. It produces two main hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The normal volume of the thyroid gland for men is up to 25 cm3, for women - up to 18 cm3. According to the World Health Organization, the increase in the number of thyroid diseases in the world is 5% per year. Among the reasons for the development of thyroid pathology, the main place is occupied by poor ecology, a lack of iodine content, as well as genetic disorders. According to statistics, women are more likely to suffer from thyroid diseases than men.
