The study deals with a comparative analysis of the ideas of pluralistic and contextual theologies, which are very representative in Catholic and Protestant philosophical thought. Being a reflection of counter cultural processes aimed at universalization and, on the contrary, the diversification of society, they offer their own versions of reforming Christian tradition. As a result of the study, the coincidences of some initial foundations of these conceptualizations and the specifics of each of them were shown. Their representatives, based on the recognition of the diversity of religious experience, see the prospects for the development of Christianity in different ways. In pluralistic theology, this plurality should take a subordinate place in relation to universal meanings, and in contextual theology, on the contrary, the general content of Christianity is disavowed to the detriment of local centers of religious life. The authors conclude that both of these versions of reforming Christianity represent more or less conscious efforts to deform, and ultimately destroy Christianity.
