University education in the context of commercialization: futurological discourse

The article analyzes the changes that occurred in the understanding of university education in the context of its commercialization. Focusing on the influence of utilitarian and liberal versions of the idea of university on modern futurological theories, the author examines the futurological concepts of education of D. Bell, A. Toffler, M. Castells and K. Kerr. It is concluded that in the XXIst century under the conditions of market competition and commercialization the preference is given to the pragmatic model of university education and the university itself turned into an expensive business, declaring itself as an industry branch that shows close interaction with economy.
