University and industry: from partnership in science and research to higher education institutions' Integration into the innovation system of the region

The article focuses on the interaction between Universities and industrial enterprises as one of the factors building up the innovation system of the region. The international experience of organizing systemic University-business partnerships is considered; advantages and challenges within the essential models of innovation-based regional development are analysed.
