Urban utopianism in Rostov-on-Don: regional experience (1920-1930)

The article is devoted to urban planning projects of the city of Rostov-on-Don in 1920-1930. Regional features of the architecture of Rostov-on-Don are revealed. The architecture of the city is considered in the context of the stages of urban utopianism. Local projects of the “socialist city” and “garden city” types are analyzed. The stages of social utopianism (I. N. Nemanov) in M. Yampolsky’s views on the development of a socialist city are revealed. The reasons why none of the projects of the “ideal city” was fully implemented in Rostov-on-Don are studied.
