The review presents a book that can be considered a milestone in the study of manor and country topos in Russian literature for more than two centuries of their existence. The review demonstrates how the author of the monograph fails to clarify a number of basic to solve problems term - outline of the semantic field “the manor text” and “estate culture”, separated from each other the concepts of “estate myth”, “urban estate”, “locus manor”, “manor topos”, “the poetaster estates”, “country topos”, etc., introduced the category of “heterotopia of the estate” and “estate habit”. Based on this, the author of the peer-reviewed monograph convincingly proves the universality and interdisciplinarity of these terms on an extensive material. The review describes in detail the structure of the monograph, and through this demonstrates how on numerous examples from specific works (the monograph discusses the work of F.M. Dostoyevsky, A.N. Tolstoy, A.M. Gorky, I.S. Turgenev, N.S. Gumiliov, I.A. Bunin, M.M. Prishvin, M.A. Bulgakov, V.O. Pelevin, V.G. Sorokin, E.G. Vodolazkin and many others) the author of the book asserts the notion that a key category for the scientific understanding of the phenomenon of the manor in the literature is the notion of the estate of a topos. The author of the review insists that the monograph of O.A. Bogdanova, taking into account all the previous research tradition on this problem, forms further paths, indicates the direction of future researchers of the subsequent movement, systematically and multi-faceted comprehending the image of the estate and the cottage in Russian literature.
