The problem of religious revival, the definition of the types of religiosity, the intensity of cult behavior, the correspondence of the type of religiosity (convinced believer, believer, hesitant, convincingly nonbeliever) to ritual behavior, the formation of the principles of religious tolerance and interreligious tolerance in the mass conscious-ness are relevant for the modern poly-confessional and multi-ethnic Russian society. Within the framework of this study, the key is to establish the correspondence and in-consistency of the type of religiosity of a person (attitude to religion) with his normative religious practice. A noticeable scientific interest in the study of this particular aspect of religious problems has grown in the wake of the revitalization of the activity of spiritual institutions, the emergence of religious educational institutions. The author's study of the religiosity and religious behavior of the urban population of Dagestan shows that self-identification with the types of religiosity prevails in the public consciousness of the respondents - a convinced believer and a believer. The share of respondents who, according to their ideological convictions, belong to other types of religiosity (vacillating, unbelievers, convincingly unbelievers), in comparison, is noticeably smaller, but significant differences in socio-demographic parameters were revealed. In addition, according to the research, it was found that the declaration of a certain type of religiosity does not correspond to the intensity of religious practice of the surveyed urban population of Dagestan: self-identification with a certain type of religiosity implies specific cult behavior, but verification of empirical material indicates a different normative behavior of the respondents.
