Cession of the Russian possessions to the USA and its historical and legal consequences

The issue of the alienation by the Russian Empire of possessions in Alaska in favor of the United States of America, characterized by the presence of a political context, occupies a special place in Russian history. Over a long period of time, both the scientific and the political community have sharply criticized the sale of Alaska to the United States, which is why it seems advisable to conduct a legal assessment of the actions of the parties to the transaction and the materials related to it. The subject of this work is the legal assessment of an international treaty concluded between the Russian Empire and the United States on March 18, 1867 regarding the sale of the Russian possessions in Alaska.
