On November 24, 2003, the Yamal-201 and Yamal-202 geostationary communication satellites were launched into orbit. One of them, the Yamal-202 satellite, keeps operating 20 years now. Successful operation of this series of satellites was facilitated by the results of some technical experiments carried out on the Russian segment (RS) of the International Space Station (ISS), the 25th anniversary of which launch is celebrated this year. The article outlines the findings of investigations performed on the ISS RS within the frame of the Tenzor and Sreda-ISS experiments, which were used for flight control of the Yamal satellites and contributed to their long-term operation in orbit.
