Respect for the Honor and Dignity of the Individual: a Principle Requiring Interpretation

The article examines the most important principle of criminal proceedings – respect for the honor and dignity of the individual. The terminology used in the norms governing the principle under consideration is being analyzed in detail. Its importance and necessity in the field of criminal procedural relations are emphasized. At the same time, the author draws attention to the evaluative characteristics of such concepts as “torture”, “violence”, “honor”, “dignity”, which raises a number of problematic issues in the implementation of guarantees of the rights of participants in criminal proceedings.
