In search of an ideal: the typology of female images in the Russian prose of Vladimir Nabokov

The article studies the typology of female images in Vladimir Nabokov’s works and the search for an ideal heroine. We have considered the role and characterisation of the majority of the heroines in his prose. The level of this topic development in classical and modern literary criticism is revealed. Given the current points of view, we seek to synthesize and complement the existing critical material. The article analyzes the important moments of the Russian period of Vladimir Nabokov’s creativity for characterisation of female images. Based on this material we propose a typology of female images in Vladimir Nabokov’s works. It is concluded about the evolution of heroines of the Russian period of the writer’s creativity and the presence of the image of an ideal woman in a number of Vladimir Nabokov’s "program" works.
