Variants of psychological adaptation to chronic disability of patients with traumatic spinal cord disease

Introduction Study of personal resources and adaptation capabilities of patients in critical situation of spinal cord trauma and its consequences is necessary for analysis of psycho-emotional status, prognosis and planning of psychological care and correction in the complex of rehabilitation measures. Material and methods Clinical analysis was done in 2 patients of the same age with the same type of spinal cord injury in identical period of the disease. Study of psycho-emotional condition and copying strategies of patients was done according to techniques: evaluation of trait and state anxiety according to Spielberg-Hanin test; Beck Depression Inventory; technique for diagnosting the level of neurotization L.I. Wasserman; technique for study of coping behavior by E. Haim; questionnaire of coping behavior strategies by R. Lazarus with statistical processing of the obtained results. Results and discussion Observed types of reactions demonstrate connection of emotional and behavioral responses with coping strategies. Besides, adaptive coping-strategies can be seen in view of resource component of the personality and it gives an opportunity for further prognosis and formation of effective behavioral patterns.
