The increased interest in multiple pregnancies, as a kind of mystery of nature, known since ancient times, does not weaken at the present time. In recent years for decades, the problem of multiple births has become particularly relevant. First of all, this is due to a significant increase in the frequency of multiple pregnancies, which has acquired the scale of an “epidemic” in the world. Thus, from 1980 to 2009, the number of multiple births in the United States almost doubled (from 18.9 to 33.2 per 1,000 births). The frequency of multiple pregnancies in most European countries ranges from 0.7 to 1.5%.
