«Advertisements from Parnassus» by T. Boccalini and its Russian readers: on the influence of republican ideas in the first third of the eighteenth-century

The article examines the history of Russian translations of « Ragguagli di Parnaso » (1612-13) by Italian satirist and political writer Traiano Boccalini and the influence of his ideas to Russian statesmen in the first half of the 18 th century. The attachment contains an extract from Andrey Vasiliev’s translation of « Advertisements from Parnassus » (1728), which describes the difficult choice of Mitilene’s citizens between monarchy and republic.
