Introduction. The 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War gives a rise to comprehending the experience of its study. In recent decades, a significant number of new studies have appeared on this topic, distinguished by a variety of problems and their assessments. This is largely due to the fact that the war is the most important place of memory in modern Russia and other post-Soviet states. The purpose of the article is to identify different directions and approaches in modern Russian historiography of the Great Patriotic War. Methods and materials. The article is based on historiographic sources, generalizing and special works of Russian researchers on the history of the Great Patriotic War, published from the 1990s to the present day. The author relies on the principle of historicism and a systematic approach and applies the methods of logical and historiographic analysis, periodization, comparative-historical and problem-chronological methods. Results. The current stage in the development of Russian historiography of the Great Patriotic War is characterized by the introduction of new sets of sources into scientific circulation, rethinking of previously posed questions, and expansion of the subject of research. In recent years, along with the study of military operations, issues of military everyday life, the Nazi occupation and its consequences, demographic losses, as well as the reflection of the Great Patriotic War in various forms of historical memory and other research problems have been widely developed.
