The grand canal as a unification way of the north and south China during the Sui dynasty (581-618)

This article describes the main sections that make up the Grand Canal, a channel Tongji, Han, Jiangnan and Yongji, which were built under the second Sui emperor Yang-di (604-617). At the same time, one more canal is considered, Guantong Canal, which was appeared by decree of the first emperor of Sui dynasty Wen-di. Creation date of the Grand Canal’s sections are pointed out. Showing the role and place of these channels during the Sui Dynasty, that is their way to the integration of the North and South China. The strategic importance of each channel are considered. Providing an information about the controversial opening date of Tongji Canal. In conclusion, adducing as well as their subsequent influence on China’s development under following dynasties. Also accompanying maps, which shows the routes of these channels.
