The Slavonic editio princeps of the Hirmologion, printed in Moscow in 1657, is one of the most important liturgical books printed in Russia during the reforms of Patriarch Nikon since it served as the basis for the correction of subsequent liturgical books and notated manuscripts. Te sources of the Hirmologion of 1657 have yet to be identified. In this article, the author studies Greek Hirmologia printed in Venice in the 16th and 17th centuries. Te author describes their content and demonstrates that they served as a source for the Slavonic editio princeps. A key feature of the Hirmologion of 1657 is the presence of many new hirmoi that do not occur in Slavonic manuscripts of the 16th and 17th centuries. By comparing the contents of the Hirmologion of 1657 and the Venetian editions with Byzantine manuscripts, the author shows that these new texts are hirmoi of ancient canons. Tese hirmoi were printed in the Venetian books even though they are never used in modern worship
