he paper focuses on study of the problem of influence of the Russian literary tradition of describing Venice on the Venetian text and presents the results of the comparative analysis of the Venetian theme presented in the works of Modern Literature (1996-2009) and in the literature of the XVIII-XX centuries. The analysis allows concluding that the works written in the recent years are largely guided by the tradition which has been already formed in Russian literature. This influence manifests itself in the preservation of the fundamental constants of the Venetian text in the actualization of various intertextual elements (quotations, allusions). However, contemporary writers polemize with their predecessors: they change the seasons in the description of Venice, shift the sense dominant from the centre of Venice to its periphery; compare literary and real Venice, describe in detail Venice and change the stylistic register of the descriptions.
