Venice in the prose of V.F. Khodasevich

The article presents the study of the “Venetian text” in the sketch prose of V.F. Khodasevich. The analysis of the writer's prose works about Venice allows us to examine the main features of the Khodasevich's “Venetiana” of the 1910s. The author of the article refers the non-romantic perception of reality, carnivalism, the system of images of death, the artificiality of the Venetian space, negatively presented images of tourists to the features of “Venetiana” in Khodasevich's prose. In addition, the author explores the similarities and differences between Khodasevich's works and the works of the writer's contemporaries. The article concludes that in the prose and in the lyrics of Khodasevich, Venice is shown in various ways: in poems the writer is closer to tradition, in essays he moves away from it; the early “Venetian” lyric poetry is characterized by the image of the beloved, in prose the image of the beloved does not appear; in poetry, reality is represented in a romantic vein, in prose it is shown in an existential way.
