This paper discusses the problem of urban growth through the construction of high-rise apartment buildings in Russia and in the world, affecting the psychosocial well-being of its residents, which is a prerequisite for the appearance of various phobias (including acrophobia, domatophobia), as well as suicide attempts. The results of socio-psychological studies conducted in Russia, the USA, China and Japan were comprehended. The data of the Council on Tall Buildings and the Urban Environment, the World Health Organization and the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (the rate of commissioning of the total area of residential buildings by number of storeys, the number of industrial accidents from falling from a height, as well as the number of injuries with uncertain intentions through falls, jumps or collisions from a height) were analyzed. Measures for the prevention of suicide by jumping from a height based on world practice were considered.
