Types of preventive measures in criminal proceedings

Preventive measures play an important role in the process of investigation and trial. They occupy a central place in the system of measures of criminal procedural coercion: unlike other measures, they hold the record for the significance of legal restrictions and the maximum prevalence of application, approaching full coverage of all persons accused or suspected of committing a crime. The article examines the types of preventive measures in criminal proceedings. Article 98 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation provides for eight possible preventive measures that can be chosen by an inquirer, investigator or court in relation to the accused or suspect.
