Virtual research environments in the humanities and social sciences

This article examines the use of virtual research environments in the humanities and social sciences. It examines how Virtual Research Environments’s operate and their purposes, including supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating heterogeneous data, and providing tools for collaborative work with sources. Special attention is paid to technological aspects, such as the use of Semantic MediaWiki and virtual reality for data analysis and visualization. The advantages of Virtual Research Environments’s are highlighted: expanded access to resources, democratization of research, and the formation of scholarly communities. The main limitations of their implementation are noted, including technical barriers and socio-cultural challenges. The prospects for the development of environments, associated with the integration of artificial intelligence and the improvement of user interfaces, are defined. The article concludes with an assessment of the transformational potential of virtual research environments for modernizing scientific activity in the humanities and social sciences.
