Appealing to the discussion of iconodulists and iconoclasts, which took place in Byzantium in the VIII-IX centuries, the article reveals the important philosophical aspects of the theory of image, the dialectical cognition theory as a theory of reflection. According to the ico-nodulists the icon image is inseparable from its essence (prototype). In respect to the philosophical cognitive activity such an understanding overcomes the dualism principle (duplication of the reality) and means that the cognition results are the reflection (image) of the object of cognition.
