Contribution of Yu. B. Shmarov to museum practice of the XX century

The article is dedicated to Yuri Borisovich Shmarov, known as the creator of a genealogical collection on the history of the Russian nobility, stored for more than thirty years in the State Pushkin Museum (Moscow). Yu. B. Shmarov made an invaluable contribution to the formation of the museum fund; objects from his collection can be seen in the capital and provincial museums, including the Battle of Borodino Panorama Museum, the State Lermontov Museum Reserve “Tarkhany” and many others. Yu. B. Shmarov, who began his career as a collector in the post revolutionary years and did not deviate from research interests throughout his life, made an invaluable contribution to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage. For the first time, on the basis of archival documents, the article analyzes the contribution of Yu. B. Shmarov to the preservation and study of historical and cultural heritage and characterizes the main directions of his activities in museum practice of the twentieth century.
