Based on the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard for primary education and the recommendations of modern programs, the author of the article proposes to use the questions used at the international mathematical competition "Kangaroo" as a method of development of the cognitive processes of schoolchildren in 3d and 4th grades. The work analyzes the questions used at the competition and compares them with the topics studied in the school curriculum. Based on personal experience, the author also gives methodological recommendations for using the question used at the competition at various stages of the mathematics lesson.
