Authority and Muslim school in Russian Turkestan (1867-1881)

The paper is devoted to problems of the attitude of imperial authority to traditional Muslim school in Russian Turkestan during management of general-governor K.P. Kaufman. The author marks, that Kaufman did not interfere with its activity, but tried to involve the younger generation of natives of the region in the Russian forms of education. The process was slow, difficult, but not hopeless.
