The power and the sport: one soccer match of the totalitarianism era

The article considers the interrelation between the politics and the sport in the Stalin era, as well as the consequent repressions of the athletes. It is emphasized that sport was directly linked to the objectives of the foreign policy, it helped successfully to form the image of the Soviet Union, but the fate of athletes depended on the outcome of international competitions.
