The impact of British media on EU referendum results (Brexit)

The article deals with the impact of print and online media in Great Britain on EU Referendum results held on June 23, 2016. The author analyzes the informative trends and techniques employed by the UK mass media during the Brexit campaign. On the whole, the British media played a powerful role in UK citizens’ decision to leave the EU, having detected and intensified the Eurosceptic mood. In/out division, messages open to multiple interpretations, replicable speech by politicians arguing for leaving the EU, explosive and controversial coverage of migration and the EU financial and legal commitments’ issues contributed to the negative image of Brussels in British mass media. This, in turn, is to implement the historic decision on withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU.
